I was born at an early age and went on from there to spend nearly 40 years as a writer/photographer with the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest newspaper. I covered a wide selection of stories during my Star days including three years roaming the back roads of Ontario writing what we in the news business call “man bites dog” stories. When a dog bites a man, that’s news. When a man bites a dog, that’s a human interest story. I was The Star’s real estate editor during my final 10 years on staff. I wrote many freelance travel stories for The Star after my retirement. I then wrote freelance travel articles for Postmedia Network – Canada’s largest newspaper chain – for 10 years. Travels With Lefty is so named because I lost my left arm in a car accident when I was 19, more than 50 years ago.
